In Katie Settel’s photo, my husband adjusts my son’s tie. It’s only an hour from his Bar Mitzvah service. The photograph is of the two of them, but it captures the intimacy of this sacred tradition, of father to son. In another photo, our daughter sits with her friends at the party. They’re still children, but in their dresses, they’re lovely and individual—this one beaming, that one making a peace sign. We know these kids and, judging by Katie’s photo—she knows them, too.
There are many more photos like this—a behind the scenes record that show my husband and me what the day was really like. It was made up of big moments and small ones and Katie’s photos capture them. We were so pleased with Katie’s photos that three years later, when our daughter became a Bat Mitzvah, we chose Katie again to be our photographer. Christine P.
